All you have to do is literally introduce the author, article, and re-state the instructions. As someone who is extremely experienced with standardized testing, I knew I didn't have to do too much prep.
But to get the most out of this experience, I did all the practice exams released by The College Board and wrote several essays using a framework I had devised.
Every essay will always ask for the same exact topic: which is to explain how the author uses features to strengthen his/her argument.
So by features, the SAT is referring to stylistic writing strategies that the author uses. A majority of test-takers who aren't able to reach top scores are unable to do so primarily because they are approaching this essay more focused on re-telling the content and offering "deep" commentary like a standard English class essay.
So always remember to: Okay, now let's take a look at the sample here.
It's a standard College Board essay sample that was released and I wasn't able to find it while surfing through the web, so bear with me on the (potato-quality pictures).
That means taking the test myself, whether it was the updated ACT in 2015 or now the New SAT in 2016.
So when February of 2016 rolled around, I signed up for the March SAT exam, the very first one that would be conducted in the new format.
For a quick SAT background of myself, I've been averaging anywhere from 6-9 wrong on practice tests. My practice essays from the start and an actual essay for the SAT I took have been at the 8's or 7's.
