As the defence of Master Thesis keeps rolling at SPGSR, all the graduating students must know the thesis grading conditions and guidelines.
SPGSR team is glad to publish its Thesis/Dissertation Grading Guidelines (T/DGGs).
For any Master student to excel in this exam, he or she must have fulfilled the following criteria: 1.
The Master Candidates must have studied a Research Methods Course, examined and passedbefore they start on the Thesis Proposal and later the Final Theis/Dissertation. The candidate must have gone through all the stages of research including submission of the research topic to the research coordinator, written a research proposal and submitted it the designated time, collected data and analysed it under the supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Mia Wadelius is the head of the Research Graduate Group (FUG) at our Department.
Examiner: Write the name of the doctoral student's appointed examiner.Thesis subject should be related to medical education.8 credits at the 600 level or higher, chosen in consultation with the student’s academic supervisor, of which 6 credits must involve educational issues and relate to the student’s thesis topic within the medical education field – most of these courses are offered by the Faculty of Education. No student will qualify to write the latter without studying Research Methods. Please remember that the business of bringing a complete dissertation from anywhere and at the last minute when other students are going to defend their books should there be any one of you, who plans or could have done so, is not acceptable at SPGSR. Students must have submitted a complete research proposal on approval by the assigned supervisor. No student is allowed to assign him/herself a supervisor. The student was disappointed when his preferred supervisor failed to do his role. Any request for change of supervisor should be put in writing by the student specifying reasons and addressed to the research coordination office which shall in turn take the necessary steps to address the matter. Also, supervisors declining supervision of a particular student(s) should put in writing specifying grounds upon which the request is advanced. Empowering the Research Office: No influence shall be imposed on research coordination office external to the conditions specified in the research policy. The candidate must have fully completed his thesis/dissertation/project. Students’ dissertations must not be approved for graduation if they did not write and submitted the research proposal. Must have followed the structure of the thesis/dissertation as required in the GU research guidelines although there can be room for flexibility based formally agreed upon modalities. Must have acknowledged sources appropriately (it doesn’t matter which referencing style the candidate uses so long as he or she keeps the consistency through the whole dissertation). Must have all their acknowledged sources in the text reflected in the reference page at the end of the last chapter in the dissertation/thesis. Must have critiqued published or any other recommended information in both of his/her chapters more especially in introduction, literature review, methodology and interpretation/analysis of data.Must defend his/her dissertation within the deadline set by the graduate school. Must adhere to the comments set by the panellists in the work they defend. Must submit a final document (both hard and soft copies) to the research coordinator. Final grade of the dissertation has to be issued on the very day of defence and must depend on the quality of the student’s dissertation evaluated by the panellists at the time.As soon as the defence is done, there must not be any other additions/subtractions in the grades. Must not be a victim of plagiarism (this is an unforgivable sin). Students who have not fulfilled any or all of the above requirements must not be approved for defence and graduation. The socio-political and economic future of any country’s students depends on its teachers. The SPGSR equips her students with strategic skills to prepare them to address practical problems of society.Amongst its several Human Resource Development Programmes, the Council is pursuing Postgraduate programmes through recognized medical institution. This scheme is primarily aimed at promoting good quality research in medical college’s students pursuing post graduation courses as well as to improve visibility and accessibility of their research work to larger research audience.
