To ensure work is consolidated and extended at home we are going to think about homework a little more creatively.
Each term or half term, during the first week, your child will be given a homework grid.
You now have access to Spelling Shed from any internet connected device, using your child's individual log in.
Our area of the site has already been preloaded with some of the key spelling patterns for Year 4, as well as access to the First 100 High Frequency words which are key for all children to secure.
During their spelling lessons, children will write words that they need to learn each week in their Spelling Log Book, which they will bring home with them.
Parents are asked to help them learn these words and test them at home.Don't try to learn them all at once: check off the ones you can already do, and choose a few at a time to learn and practise at home.Dear Parent / Carer At St Thomas we pride ourselves on our creative curriculum.Topic homework is designed as a way for you to be part of that enrichment process. Each task is carefully chosen as a way of exploring/expanding on their classroom experience. Each term or half term each class has a specific curriculum focus which the majority of our lessons link into.We know that homework is beneficial to both children and parents, but sometimes children find homework ‘boring’, ‘a waste of time’ and ‘pointless’.The grid contains activities linked to all areas of learning (English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Art etc). Each activity has a points value: the values relate to the complexity of the task. They may wish to use computers/laptops for their homework, produce a Power Point presentation, make a model or write their responses down.Every child may choose to present their work differently, but the task is the same.
